Your efforts will fundamentally change what Space Domain Awareness and Mission Protection means for our Nation.
Skyfire is a Space Domain Awareness (SDA) Indications and Warning (I&W) system. Its purpose is to establish a repository of resident space objects (RSOs), find RSOs of interest, and provide data to ground operators. Located in Chantilly, VA, the Skyfire team uses: sensor modeling, and systems engineering expertise to deliver this world-class SDA I&W system.
You will join a group within the National Security Space (NSS) Business Unit which is responsible for developing and delivering engineering, software, and infrastructure solutions in support of the nation’s critical space-based infrastructure. Superior domain knowledge and communication skills are required along with the ability to successfully interface with corporate functional organizations in program execution.
What you'll do:
Assess the usefulness of data sources for satellite ground station operations
Interface with Customers and mission partners to status data sources and help pinpoint the causation of outages
Work with other systems engineers to develop a plan for on-boarding new data sources
Work with system architects and engineers to define the network and processing required for the data
Work with software engineers and testers to evaluate data quality
Coordinate across program teams to ensure that data is being processed correctly and that software upgrades are deployed and integrated on time
Effectively collaborate and drive communication with colleagues across teams
Create briefings for Program Status Reviews including Course of Action decision briefs
Represents the organization in developing solutions to difficult technical problems
Provides input and status to the program integrated master schedule (IMS)
Exercises sound judgement to avoid erroneous decisions or recommendations that may result in serious program delays and considerable expenditure or resources
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in an engineering or computer science field and two (2+) years of related experience as a systems engineer; OR Master's degree. Additional experience will not be considered in lieu of a degree
Must have two (2+) years experience supporting ground system operations
Familiarity with cloud architectures, such as AWS and OpenStack
Experience supporting system integration processes such as:
Configuration Management
Software Release Management
Patch Management
Change Management
This position requires the candidate possess a minimum of Top Secret clearance with ability to upgrade to TS/SCI and pass a polygraph within 30 days of employment or at customers request- Contract requires TS/SCI with poly. The candidate must maintain the clearance.
Desired Qualifications:
Master’s degree (or the equivalent) in a technical field
Two (2+) years of experience in the Intelligence Community with systems engineering focus
One (1+) year of experience in software or hardware integration
Self-starter with ability to work independently and with stakeholders
Defensive space control, such as space operations and/or mission protection experience

Target Salary Range
$86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
