The Tax Compliance Manager is primarily responsible for leading a team to perform analytical and technical work in the inspection and auditing of businesses, as well as resolve complex business tax cases and provide guidance to business tax inspectors and business tax auditors. About This Role: The successful candidate will have thorough working knowledge of the Business, Professional and Occupational License tax, Business Personal Property tax and other local business taxes. Responsibilities include:
Plans, directs, and leads staff by administering and executing short- and long-range planning for business tax audits and on-site inspection and discovery program.
Establishes audit and inspection discovery procedures. Reviews and recommends necessary modifications to Tax Compliance module to effectively assist staff.
Approves audit and on-site inspection reports.
Disseminates, interprets, and instructs business tax inspectors and auditors on new or amended state and local laws.
Develops and authorizes program standard letter formats, spreadsheets, audit workpapers, questionnaires and alternate billing systems.
Renders authoritative decisions in tax audit/assessment disputes, governed by current tax laws; Approves complex business licenses, statutory assessments, refunds and amended returns.
Conducts complex financial and operational tax audits involving disputes of classification and tax exemption status.
Ensures departmental compliance with all applicable laws, policies, and procedures relating to tax compliance. Provides guidance and tax code interpretation to staff and businesses on complex business tax matters.
Hires professional and para-professional staff. Mentors and grows staff, and provides timely performance feedback, evaluations, and development plans.
Maintains liaison with state, federal and County officials and business officers.
Collaborates with internal/external agencies on complex tax code issues for uniformity and tax code interpretation.
Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or G.E.D. and 7 years of related business tax compliance experience.

Seven or more years of experience with Business, Professional and Occupational License tax, Business Personal Property tax and other local business taxes.
1 or more years of supervisory experience
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of developing and implementing tax options and solutions;
Problem solving experience
Accounting and auditing experience
Ability to analyze data, financial statements, and prepare various reports; ability to examine and analyze tax assets and liabilities
Excellent analytical and time management skills and attention to detail
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees and the general public; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Work Schedule: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, Mon – Fri.
Special Requirements: Possession of a valid driver’s license. Must pass DMV background check. Starting Salary Range: $88,939.50 - $118,862.25
