Patch Truck Operators perform skilled patching and other tasks in asphalt and concrete; operate motorized equipment in the repair of streets surfaces; drive a truck engaged in having materials and supplies; lead a small patch crew; and perform other duties as assigned.
NOTES:
Employees in job classifications represented by AFSME Local 127 are scheduled to receive the following general wage increases:
2% effective 1/1/25
5% effective 7/1/25
Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).
Patch Truck Operator employees may be required to work weekends, extended periods of night or unusual shift work for which they may receive 5% additional pay.
Patch Truck Operator employees who operate commercial vehicles are required by California State Law, as a condition of employment, to submit to drug and alcohol testing. Prior to hire, a background check will be completed in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse and with former employers regarding drug and alcohol testing results.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
You must meet the following requirements on the date you apply, unless otherwise indicated.
EXPERIENCE: You must meet ONE of the following options:
Six months of full-time experience as a Heavy Truck Driver II with the City of San Diego.
One year of full-time experience operating vehicles requiring a Class A or Class B California Driver’s license.
One year of full-time experience operating construction equipment such as heated patch trucks, dump trucks, loaders, pavement rollers, jackhammers and other similar heavy equipment.
NOTE:
City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience and/or on-the-job training to qualify, must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, the equipment operated, dates and total number of qualifying OCA and/or training hours. OCA experience and on-the-job training without the required documentation will NOT be considered.
LICENSE: A valid California Class A or B Driver License AND a valid California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) medical certificate dated within the last two years are required at the time of application.
NOTES:
A restricted Class A or B Driver License will NOT be accepted.
A current Driver Record issued by the DMV may be required at the time of interview.
