Reporting to the FSQA Manager, the Apprentice Panelistwill support and participate in daily sensory panels for quality assurance of Peet’s coffee products. Prospective candidateneeds to demonstrate a baseline level of sensory acuity. Candidates will be asked to complete a short confidential questionnaire to determine if they meet key sensory acuity requirements. If requirements are met, prospective candidate will then be asked to participate in an additional one-hour onsite screening as part of the interview process.This position is an introductory position designed for broader sensory and/or coffee roasting exposure in the future.
What You Will Do:
Participate in daily sensory panels following established standards, including but not limited to internal, co-manufacturing and international samples
Work alongside Sensory Technician in coordination of sensory evaluations/exercises, samples, and supplies with all relevant departments prepare for multiple activities on a regular basis
Gain a full understanding of the principles of coffee roasting, roasting techniques and the effects on sensory outcomes
Understanding of sensory analysis principles and process
Assists Sensory Technician with records, logs of test data, reports, specifications, and other quality procedures as needed
Provide sensory support and direction for quality issues and root cause investigations occurring in the roasting plant
Help with the general upkeep of the sensory lab and supplies, maintain workspace and storage areas in clean, organized and safe manner
Follow established Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), safety procedures, company policies, quality policies and procedures as they apply to this position
Perform additional testing and analysis as directed by Manager
Who You Are:
A desire to expand sensory knowledge through additional training and education such as Q-grader certification.
Experience with sensory testing in coffee production or food industry preferred
Experience with coffee brewing preferred
Ability to input, interpret, and report out on data collection using Windows and/or related computer programs
Aptitude for evaluating products with an acute level of sensory detection – will be assessed during the first screening session
Ability to maintain open and honest relationships with colleagues building trust and confidence. Should be able to work independently and as part of a team
Communication skills – interpretation of other panelists’ point of view and ability to articulate own opinion tactfully
Detail oriented and quality conscious individual.
