We are looking for a lead data scientist to be part of our analytics and product development team focused on building tools that will power and advise our clients with the most cutting-edge technology available in the load management, grid modeling and distributed energy resource sectors. You will be an integral member of our agile team responsible for the creation and development of unique applications and data products, using those tools to address client challenges.

What you will be doing:
- Building tools to improve grid modeling and simulations methodologies to enhance grid planning for a highly electrified future.
- Building tools to help optimize the dispatch of demand response programs across Smart Thermostats, BTM Batteries, EV Managed Charging, and Smart Hot Water Heaters
- Building tools that create digital twins of residential, commercial, multi-family, and industrial properties across North America.
- Building tools that model transportation electrification infrastructure.
- Understanding the core logic across all our energy analytics products and platforms
- Supporting business development initiatives, and serving as a subject matter expert internally and externally to clients
- Coding robust models using Python to solve critical client challenges and develop internal tools
- Collaborate with the data engineering and visualization teams for client deliverables
- Engage with external partners and trade allies to obtain, clean, and interpret data related to all aspects of the energy industry
- Support the biggest challenges in our industry like building scalable Non-Wires Alternatives and Non-Pipe Alternative solutions
- Help to inform new and improved grid modernization design based on data analysis and trends
- Collaborate with industry leaders and subject matter experts and work to translate processes into scalable software tools
- Analyze market trends, partners, and technologies as projects and clients require
What we need you to have (minimum qualifications):
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, power systems engineering, data science, statistics, computer science, management information systems, or related field
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, power systems engineering, data science, statistics, computer science, management information systems, or related field
- 7+ years of experience as a data scientist, energy analyst, or related position in the energy industry (candidates can substitute one year of experience for one year of related education)
- Experience in open-source data science languages, including Python
- Experience with statistical data analysis, geospatial modeling, experimental design, and hypothesis validation
- Experience with AMI (smart meter) data
What we would like you to have:
- PhD in data science, computer science, management information systems, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, power systems engineering, or related field
- Experience working with one or more of the following: DERMS, ADMS, power system modelling and simulations: CYME, OpenDSS or WindMil
- Experience leading projects from business development to project completion
- Experience working on Machine Learning, Deep Learning, or Artificial Intelligence projects
- Experience in open-source data science tools, including SQL, NumPy and Pandas
- Experience with data cleaning and standardization best practices; ability to efficiently prepare data for machine learning and predictive processes
- Applied experience in general application programming and database concepts including writing complex SQL scripts
- Experience with data modeling, data warehouse/data mart design, development, and testing
- Experience with containerization platforms, such as Docker
- Experience with Azure DevOps, with certifications such as Data Engineer Associate, Data Scientist Associate, Database Administrator Associate, Solutions Architect Expert
- Direct experience of building data pipelines using Apache Spark (preferably Databricks)
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Microsoft Power BI or Tableau and spatial visualization (e.g. ArcGIS)
- Experience with custom-coded front-end platforms built in tools such as Plotly, Dash, or Carto.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently, remotely, and on projects with dynamic timelines

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The pay range for this position is:
$102,285.00 - $173,884.00
