The Library's mission is to provide resources, services, and a place to read, connect, relax, and learn. The Library supports literacy, life-long learning, civic engagement, and cultural awareness. To achieve these goals, the Library provides: access to library materials and guidance in finding quality, trusted information, events for all ages to support life-long learning and early literacy, and school year and summer programs to promote a lifetime love of reading. The Library helps adults and children by offering access to hundreds of thousands of books, audiobooks, e-books and other materials. Thousands of patrons are reached through outreach activities to schools, homebound patrons, Roxbury Book Nook, and community events.
What We're Looking For: The Beverly Hills Public Library has two openings for a Librarian II. One vacancy is in the Adult Reference Department and the second vacancy is in the Children’s Services Department. Incumbents may be assigned to work where needed at the discretion of their supervisor and based on the needs of the department.
The Adult Reference Department position will be responsible for providing outstanding customer service and high-quality reference and readers’ advisory in-person, by phone, and while roaming and moving about the library frequently. The position will also be responsible for providing reference support, some collection development, research, and other duties as assigned.
The Children’s Services Department position will be responsible for leading story time, working with children under the age of twelve, assisting students with school assignments, locating resources, and finding appropriate books to read. They will also develop, prepare and present children's programs.
Incumbents must be knowledgeable of Library online resources and databases, able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions. Incumbents must be flexible to work in all services of the library although they will have dedicated assignments. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, adaptable, team oriented, customer focused and tech savvy. This position reports directly to the Librarian III.

Schedule and Hours: All work will performed on-site, 5 days a week. This is a non-teleworking position. Additionally, incumbents will be assigned to work one evening shift per week. Researches, evaluates, and selects materials for the Library's collection in all formats, including books, magazines, CD-ROM and on-line services; maintains the collection; selects materials to be withdrawn.
Compiles bibliographies on specific topics; maintains files of materials and answers to patrons' questions.
Assists the Librarian III or the Senior Librarian in preparing reports and statistics; prepares and distributes handouts explaining the Library's services.
Plans and presents programs.
Assists in training and supervising subordinate staff, including interns, librarians, pages, and volunteers.
Attends meetings and represents the Library with schools, community agencies and organizations.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in Library Science and two years experience at a professional level.
