City of La Mesa California
La Mesa is a city in San Diego County, located 9 miles east of Downtown San Diego in Southern California. The population was 57,065 at the 2010 census, up from 54,749 at the 2000 census. Its civic motto is "the Jewel of the Hills." La Mesa was established in 1912. In its early days, this small Southern Californian town was in the movie-making business. Founded in 1869, La Mesa was originally part of a large ranch owned and operated by Robert Allison. When water and rail transportation appeared in the area in the late 19th century, a land boom ensued and the town of La Mesa was established.
