City of Del Mar California
Del Mar is a beach city in San Diego County, California, United States, incorporated on July 15, 1959. Del Mar is Spanish for "of the sea" or "by the sea," which reflects its location on the coast of the Pacific Ocean. The Del Mar Horse Races are hosted on the Del Mar racetrack every summer. The City of Del Mar is a quaint seaside village located just 20 miles north of San Diego. With a population of approximately 4,200 people, and covering just 2.2 square miles, Del Mar is known for its vibrant small-town atmosphere. In 1885, Del Mar was established. With the name Del Mar being given from Ella the wife of a railroad contractor, Theodore M. Loop who was working on laying tracks between San Bernardino and San Diego, with “Colonel” Jacob Taylor providing funds to acquire 338.11 acres from Enoch Talbert.
