SJHCF is at an exciting moment in its history. In 2021, the organization completed the $213 million Powerof Partnership – the most successful fundraising campaign in the Foundation's history. Looking forward,the board of SJHCF seeks to continue its momentum by diversifying philanthropic income sources and expanding revenue. To affect these improvements, a new Foundation President and CEO was hired earlier this year and has since begun expanding the team to provide the manpower needed to lead the Foundation into a new era of increased and diversified levels of philanthropic support.
The Foundation seeks an experienced communications professional to help develop strategic and compelling content to support the fundraising and communications priorities of its health center. This newly created position offers exciting opportunities to make a significant impact on the future of Saint John's Health Center Foundation.
The Donor Engagement Manager is a pivotal member of our team, bringing solid writing experience to inform, inspire and engage supporters, and will provide both development of, and editorial assistance for, a wide variety of communications that focus on donor engagement, solicitation, and stewardship for different donor audiences. The incumbent should be familiar with best practices in philanthropic messaging and digital/printed communications. Reporting to the Executive Director, Marketing, this position assumes a key role in our fundraising and communications efforts.
As an experienced writer, you will collaborate closely with our fundraising and stewardship teams to create a diverse range of compelling communications, including collaborative major gift proposal development, impact report creation, and other strategic communications that convey how philanthropicgifts support our mission to improve the health and wellbeing of each person we serve.
In this role, you will also help to establish a comprehensive content strategy and editorial style. Your responsibilities include research, writing, editing, reviewing, and the production of various fundraising communication materials in a timely, effective and professional manner. Your expertise will be pivotal in managing collaboration and communication with Foundation staff, caregivers, and subject matter experts to deliver clear, concise, consistent, and inspiring messages with the highest standards of integrity and accuracy. This job requires working and communicating with all levels of the organization, so it is important that candidates can demonstrate professional decorum as well as an ability to communicate and build relationships across broad audiences. A good sense of humor is appreciated (where appropriate) and a strong, dedicated work ethic is a must.Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or Marketing, or similar combination of skills and related experience.
- 5-8 years of professional writing experience.
- 4 years demonstrated skills in storytelling, writing impact pieces, cases for support, appeals, remarks, fact checking, and synthesizing a coherent, related and emotive story around a common theme or message.
- 4 years persuasive writing experience developing philanthropic grants or proposals, business pitches, impact statements, marketing campaigns, direct mai appeals, newsletters, etc.
- Proficient in MS Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working in nonprofit fundraising communications in a hospital, academia, medical or research setting.
- Experience with Adobe Suite, including Acrobat, Illustrator and InDesign.
- Experience working in nonprofit fundraising communications in a hospital, academia, medical, or research setting.
- Working knowledge of fundraising software.
