The Los Angeles Community College District *(LACCD) announces an opening for a Part-Time Athletic Director position (0.6 FTE) at Los Angeles Southwest College (LASC). The Athletic Director position is a temporary assignment open to current fulltime faculty members only and shall be assigned as released or reassigned time for the fractional portion of FTE indicated above.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Definition
Under the supervision of the Vice President of Student Services, the Athletic Director shall perform a variety of duties in support of LASC’s sports programs, including coordinating, reporting, promoting, advertising and raising funds for athletic competitions, programs and related services and activities of the college; monitor the academic progress of student athletes to ensure continued eligibility; ensure that athletic programs are operating within the appropriate legal parameters and remain in compliance with mandated requirements; select, train, supervise and evaluate seasonal and part-time personnel, such as ticket sellers, ticket takers, clock and scoreboard operators, statisticians, public address announcers, and other staff positions supporting athletic operations.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
The position reports directly to the Vice President of Student Services. The Athletic Director will independently perform professional work involving judgment in the interpretation and application of policy and procedures. Athletic Directors have a high frequency of responsible contact with administrative and professional staff, students, and public/private agencies requiring tact and good communication skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Provide and supervise game management services, including the hiring, training, scheduling, and paying of game management workers, including ticket sellers, ticket takers, clock and scoreboard operators, statisticians, public address announcers, field workers and officials.
· Assists the athletic director in planning, coordinating and producing special events such as K-12 outreach events, marketing and promotional events associated with home contests, fundraising projects, snack bar, signing ceremonies, and tournaments hosted by athletic teams
· Prepares and distributes athletic contest statistics, including team and individual performance statistics. Prepares and maintains accurate data sets, photo files, and other student information. Plans and coordinates the preparation and distribution of athletic publications including news releases, sports brochures, program brochures, media guides, newsletters, weekly media advisories, game results, and related publications for athletics.
· Prepares and issues public relations and media pieces to support and promote the athletic department and athletic events and coordinate all news media coverage.
· Responds to information request from the public news media, conference offices, CCCAA, NCAA, NAIA and other sports information officers. Provides accurate and complete information in a timely manner.
· Professionally represents Los Angeles Southwest College Athletics at conference meetings, at California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) meetings and at other off-site venues.
· Consistently updates the Los Angeles Southwest College Athletics social media pages and website with pertinent and engaging information, while interacting with page followers in an effort to positively promote Los Angeles Southwest College Athletics and student athletes.
· Assists in ensuring proper maintenance of athletic fields, equipment and facilities; assist in coordinating custodial and maintenance needs with college personnel; assist in scheduling maintenance and repairs; participate in planning, developing and improving athletic programs.
· Conducts training sessions as needed regarding how to utilize various print/digital/social media modules with college Athletics coaches, faculty, staff members and student athletes.
· Serves as a spokesperson for the Athletic Department and develops strong relationships and positive rapport with both the media and community in an effort to promote and enhance the image of Los Angeles Southwest College Athletics.
· Provides supervision in the press box, on press row, and at the official scoring table to maintain accuracy and integrity of game management personnel and to provide a non-partisan working environment.
· Markets home sporting events via collaborative work with each individual Athletics program.
· Attends all home sporting events (extemporaneous circumstances excluded) in order to provide game management support to the Director of Athletics and be the primary lead for accumulating all statistical data at said home events. Provides direction to game workers and student assistants as assigned.
· Ensures the college complies with CCCAA and various coaches' association standards relative to uploading video, capturing contest footage for all sports programs, and providing footage appropriately to colleges, universities and media seeking such footage.
· Assists the Athletic Director with community relations, booster memberships, social service organizations, and establishing advertising partnerships.
· Assists in facility management for Los Angeles Southwest College athletics programing and requests from non-AHC entities.
· Assists in ensuring compliance of the mandated legal requirements, including CCCAA and conference constitutions and bylaws pertaining to student athletes, coaches and teams. Performs related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
· Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications to teach in an academic discipline offered in the LACCD.
· Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and/or learning disabilities.
Salary and Benefits
The successful candidate will continue at their current placement. The Athletic Director Stipend is allocated at $2,687, annually, per intercollegiate sport offered at the college, except if the college offers football, which counts for two stipends. As the selected candidate will be a full-time contract faculty member, their current load will be reduced by 0.60, as they will be reassigned for this position
