The City of Garden Grove is currently accepting applications for the position of
ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN
There is currently one (1) full-time vacancy in the Revenue Division. Under general supervision, Accounting Technicians are responsible for: interpreting, processing, balancing, producing and/or reporting various financial transactions; providing timely reporting and ensure compliance with all City, Housing Authority, and Successor Agency grants; assisting with the annual financial audit; and providing assistance to the Water/Sewer utility billing, daily payment processing, accounts receivable, revenue reporting and reconciliation, and general customer service to both internal and external customers.

- Possess a strong foundation of technical accounting knowledge and experience,
- Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail,
- Be proficient using Microsoft Excel, Word, and other web-based programs,
- Provide excellent customer service to all levels of the organization, and
- Be adaptable to constantly changing environments and demands.

Essential Duties
Prepare, process, reconcile, and/or balance bank accounts, the general ledger, labor, vendor accounts, grant accounts, accounts receivable, account payable, accruals, depreciation, and capital asset acquisitions and deletions;
Maintain complex systems of interrelated computer data hard files and records;
Check reports and records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established standards and prepare them for scanning and filing;
Interpret, produce, process, and report various Federal, State, payroll, retirement and all other related reports, taxes, notices, and forms;
Answer and supply information and interpretation of contracts, policies, procedures, changes, and actions to employees, vendors, auditors, and other governmental agencies;
Assist and support internal customers, co-workers, budget coordinators, and auditors;
Verify requisitions, revenues, and/or expenses for coding and proper departmental authorization;
Process payroll, garnishments, bills, invoices, check requests and related reporting actions and documentation;
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
Associate's degree or equivalent to at least 26 semester units from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of accounting experience is required.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Use of personal computers; business report and correspondence formats; methods, principles, and practices of basic accounting, accounts receivable, and accounts payable processing; methods of alphabetic, numeric, and subject matter filing; effective customer service techniques and principles.
ABILITY TO:
Learn and follow rules and guidelines set by governing agencies for various tasks, including accounts payable and receivable, taxes, and labor; perform responsible accounting work with speed, accuracy, and good judgment; analyze situations and make decisions regarding procedural matters without immediate supervision; think clearly and act quickly within a fast-paced work environment; prepare and maintain accurate and complete records and reports; work with confidential data with discretion; operate a personal computer and use spreadsheet software; make mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy; work effectively, tactfully, and courteously with the public, other agencies, and City staff; and commit to providing quality customer service.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
A valid California class C driver license is highly desirable.
