Performs other duties as may be assigned to further the goals and objectives of Fairfax County Public Library.

Salary: The starting annual salary offer will be in the minimum to mid-point range ($60,056.05 to $80,075.01) and will not exceed the mid-point of the advertised compensation range. Compensation rules apply per Fairfax County personnel regulations for current Fairfax County Government and Fairfax County Public Schools employees.
Schedule: Scheduling flexibility is imperative. The schedule may vary depending on the needs of the library. Occasional overtime may be required. Occasional evening and weekend hours for outreach and programming duties.

Serves on Branch Management Team;
Serves as person-in-charge;
May schedule staff and plan workflow to ensure adequate coverage;
Resolves non-routine patron interactions by communicating and interpreting library policy for staff and the general public;
Addresses the more difficult and complex reference and reader advisory services;
Promotes and represents Library System before outside groups;
May develop informational finding tools;
May select, train, supervise, and evaluate subordinate personnel;

Assists and instructs customers in the use of print and online materials and technology;

Troubleshoots library computers and reports unresolved problems through proper channels;

Directly supervises youth services within the branch;
Managers all activities of the youth service department at a regional library;
Oversees the management of the youth collection in the branch;

Coordinator of Early Literacy or Youth and Teen Services Only
Coordinates outreach programs and resources for youth and teens;
Organizes system-wide activities and events for youth and teens, such as the children's summer reading program and 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten;
Works with library staff to develop and/or provide direct programs for youth and teens;
Analyzes effectiveness of programming efforts, goals and objectives, summarizes findings, and recommends improvements;
Identifies, establishes, and maintains partnerships with childcare centers, schools, county agencies, and other organizations;
Presents professional development workshops, book talks or informational sessions for teachers and organizations who work with youth and teens;
Provides training and resources to youth services staff and organizes staff meetings.

Employment Standards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree from an ALA (American Library Association) accredited library school and one year of professional library experience.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Possession of a certificate issued by the Virginia State Board for Certification of Librarians within three (3) months of date of appointment to the position.
Valid driver's license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Two or more years of professional library experience to include one or more years of experience in a supervisory capacity to include training, coaching and developing staff.
Demonstrated experience providing training or making presentations in a formal setting (workshop, meeting, program).
Demonstrated experience planning, publicizing, executing or evaluating library programs for children and young adults, including outreach programming, author events and systemwide events (e.g., summer reading program).
Experience working in partnership with other agencies and organizations.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to the position will be required to complete a criminal background check, Child Protective Services Registry check, and driver's record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to input, access, and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to lift up to 15 lbs and perform repetitive hand, arm, wrist and shoulder movements. Ability to stand for 2 hours at a time and to stoop, bend, reach, squat, and kneel. Ability to push and pull 4-wheeled book carts filled at 70% capacity, requiring 14 lbs. of initial (starting) force, and a sustained force of 7 lbs. after initial acceleration. Ability to push and pull 4-wheeled book bins filled at 90% capacity, requiring 20 lbs. of initial (starting) force, and a sustained force of 10 lbs. after initial acceleration. Ability to shelve materials at all height levels. Ability to travel to various locations throughout Fairfax County to provide coverage, attend meetings and trainings.
