Assistant Director of Accounting and Reporting will work with various fiscal and operational functions within the accounting/finance departments of Keck Medicine of USC to provide strategic and business leadership in building a shared services finance organization and process transformation. He/she will be responsible for assisting with preparation of interim and annual financial statements, as well as preparation and collection of data for other external reports. This role will also assist with technical accounting memos and conclusions on accounting treatment (in compliance with US GAAP), documentation of standard operating procedures and accounting policies. Essential Duties:
- Assists with preparation of interim and annual financial statements and related footnotes. This might require coordination with various stakeholders, data collection, review of collected data / schedules, consolidation of collected data / schedules, as well as preparation of certain schedules based on GL.
- Responsible for putting together other external reports, included but not limited to quarterly and annual OSHPD, annual DHCS survey, and other external reports.
- Responsible for developing standard templates (along with built in instructions) for data collection for financial statement footnotes and other reports to ensure collected data is presented / reported in consistent manners across the organization. Explore opportunities for automation where applicable.
- Assists during the financial statement and other audits, on as needed basis.
- Assists / prepares technical accounting memos related to new transactions and Accounting Standards Update adoption, on as needed basis. Able to explain the implications of new Accounting Standards Update to stakeholders impacted by it.
- Review existing processes, structures, and systems with a focus on simplifying and standardizing them across the health system.
- Assists with special projects relative to process improvement, implementation, standardization, and other matters.
- Partners with other departments to develop standard operating procedures for various processes across the organization. Document related accounting policies.
- Develop risk control matrix and maintain it and identify gaps in control design. Collaborate with others to address gaps and improve internal control environment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) Business Administration Degree in Business, Economics, or Commerce, with major/emphasis in Accounting.
- 5-7 years Experience in hospital industry
- Experience with change management within a culture of growth.
- Experience in consolidation models and review of financial reporting deliverables (i.e. annual reports).
- Experience in evaluating and documenting complex accounting matters.
- Proficient in GAAP and healthcare financial accounting/reporting consolidation processes
- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills with a collaborative, team-based approach required.
- Ability to multi-task, work independently with minimal supervision, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced work environment
- Deep understanding of healthcare accounting and business processes, including finance, quantitative analysis, financial analysis, healthcare economics, information systems, and process improvement
- Experience with change management within a culture of growth.
- Strong financial, IT and analytical skills coupled with operational focus
- Proficiency with Microsoft office (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Arts/Sciences (MA/MS) Accounting Degree in Accounting or Finance.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
- Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)
- Certified Public Accountant - CPA
The annual base salary range for this position is $133,120.00 - $219,648.00.
