DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: Under the immediate direction of the Director of Secondary Education or designee. The position of Academic Coach is specialized in nurturing literacy skills within the realm of English Language Arts (ELA). This role plays a pivotal part in supporting students to enhance their reading, writing, comprehension, and critical analysis abilities within the context of ELA. The ideal candidate will provide tailored guidance and strategies to empower students to excel in literacy within English Language Arts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Three years or more of teaching experience in secondary education
• Clear Single Subject credential in English
• Appropriate certification to teach English language learners (CLAD, BCLAD, SB1969 certificate, BCC or LDS certificate)

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
• Proven experience in language arts literacy intervention and coaching within a secondary setting
• Strong understanding of literacy development and its application within ELA contexts.
• Experience in collaborative planning and delivery of differentiated professional development to classroom practitioners
• Proficiency in using research-based literacy assessment, instructional strategies, intervention approaches and methodologies
• Knowledge of differentiated classroom instructional practices that promote student academic success
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with a diverse population of students, teachers and parents
• Ability to maintain a positive and supportive learning environment for students
• Knowledge of California State Content Standards and Frameworks
• Ability to design, plan and model strategies that support teachers in developing engaging, effective lessons to increase student reading learning outcomes
