UCLA Extension is considered one of the top programs of its kind, offering to more than 35,000 students per year approximately 4,500 classes and non-degree certificate programs to meet the professional development, continuing education, and personal enrichment needs of the full spectrum of nontraditional students as well as companies and organizations throughout and beyond the Los Angeles region.
Position Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Department Director (CE III), the Program Director (Continuing Educator II; or CEII) shares academic and administrative responsibility for the development, implementation, marketing, fiscal management, ongoing evaluation, and academic quality and supervision of the teacher education programs. The Program Director relates to constituents and agencies including: The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, the UCLA School of Education and Information Studies (SEIS), the Los Angeles County Office of Education, local school districts, charter school organizations, and other community and government organizations.
Under the direction of the Director, the incumbent is responsible for the administration of self-supporting cost centers that generate approximately $1M annually and 1,500 enrollments. The incumbent monitors changing trends in Education, keeps abreast of legislative mandates, and forms partnerships to implement educational reform initiatives. The incumbent coordinates and facilitates all CA Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) accreditation activities. In efforts to expand and reach underserved communities, responsibilities will include statewide and local outreach efforts.
The incumbent serves as a member of various ad hoc committees and task forces convened at the discretion of the Director and/or the Dean’s Office. The incumbent is expected to demonstrate outstanding leadership, excellent academic and managerial skills, enthusiasm for UCLA Extension’s public service educational mission, and exceptional interpersonal skills. The incumbent also represents the institution and the department in a number of regional networks and professional associations related to the education field.
This is an 8-month contract position.
Core Responsibilities:
Academic Program Responsibilities
Provide academic oversight and management for course offerings with approximately 1,500 annual total enrollments, and approximately $1 million in annual revenue.
Direct and manage certificate programs in accordance with the requirements of UC statewide, the CA Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC), as well as UCLA Extension Certificate Program policies and standards.
Propose and coordinate the development of new courses and programs in response to changing and emerging continuing education needs, certification requirements, legislative mandates, and trends statewide and nationally.
Develop strategies to reach and support underserved communities locally and throughout the state.
Develop and implement established procedures for maintaining the quality of all continuing education programs, conference/seminar offerings and special programs.
Coordinate regular programmatic reviews of courses and certificates in accordance with UCLA Extension policy and procedure. Propose and coordinate revisions to programs as
needed.
Oversee student admission and enrollment. Resolve escalated student issues in accordance with UCLA Extension policy and accreditation guidelines.
Develop, implement and maintain continuous improvement plans and evaluation metrics for all continuing education programs, including current content, AEDI (Access, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) strategies in teaching, instructor development, and routine data collection from stakeholders (students, instructors, employers, Advisory Boards) to evaluate progress.
Maintain teacher preparation programs in accordance with CCTC requirements and standards, including appropriate data collection, data analysis, and data archiving.
Assess new trends and the changing educational needs of educational professional and local, regional, and country school districts. Provide oversight for planning professional development programs, courses, seminars and conferences throughout the Greater Los Angeles community and, in some cases, statewide.
Instructor Recruitment, Development, Management
Recruit, assist in the selection, orient, evaluate, and supervise a diversified array of qualified instructors and support providers for courses and programs, with a focus on instructors who are
familiar with AEDI.
Regularly and consistently evaluate instructor performance and provide supervision consistent with meeting departmental and institutional quality, AEDI, and enrollment goals.
Marketing and Promotion
Determine new trends and changing educational needs of the educational communities served by UCLA. Coordinate the planning, promotion, and marketing of educational programs, courses, seminars and conferences throughout the state to meet those needs.
Coordinate and organize program/departmental promotional and outreach events.
Work with the Marketing Department and departmental staff on the development of marketing strategies. Assist in preparing content and creation of marketing assets.
Budget and Financial Management
Development, implementation and management of a budget of approximately $1 million with a goal of revenue growth and fiscal viability. Management of fiscal controls, expenditures, and
financial/cost analysis for the unit, to ensure achievement of budgetary goals.
Participate in the establishment, planning, and organization of long-term strategic enrollment and financial goals for the department.
Work on other special projects as assigned or identified by the Department Director or Dean of UCLA Extension.
External Relations
Coordinate all CA Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) accreditation activities: 1) develop, implement, and maintain program surveys and measures; 2) collect and analyze data; 3) submit data to campus; 4) compose CTC Biennial Reports; and 5) keep abreast of all CTC and other legislative updates pertaining to CA teaching credentials.
Develop and maintain positive and productive collaboration with UCLA SEIS faculty and administration and with the UCLA Accreditation Programs committee (UCAP) and SE&IS Committee on Degrees and Academic Standing (CDAS). Expand the partnerships with local school districts, charter school organizations, the UCLA community, regional networks, and other agencies that seek collaboration.
Convene and coordinate advisory board meetings for assigned certificate programs.
Regularly attend outside regional university network and professional association meetings and events related to education.
