Job Abstract

POSITION SUMMARY
 

The Blood Bank Clinical Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for the operation, development, and direction of the blood bank section operations in accordance with department and MLK-LA goals.  The Blood Bank Clinical Laboratory Supervisor ensures that fiscal and human resources are managed to provide excellent service to the section’s users, and that the section fulfills its role in accomplishing departmental and MLK-LA objectives by integrating these objectives into the daily opeations of the section. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Responsibility for the supervision of the blood bank staff including, but not limited to, training, coaching, and evaluating in order to ensure a well qualified team and to enhance operational success.
2. Provide guidance to blood bank staff to ensure appropriate performance of all assigned duties.
3. In conjunction with director and manager, assist with reviewing budgetary information and controlling cost of operation and supply purchases.
4. Provide effective communication with all nursing staff and providers in response to status of laboratory test results..
5. Assure all regulatory requirements are met for the core section, including C.A.P., T.J.C., and the State of California.
6. Responsible for conducting and overseeing quality control and preventative maintenance tasks.
7. Develops and maintains quality assurance activities.
8. Responsible for policy and procedure development for the blood bank sections.
9. Schedule staff to assure all shifts can meet required workload.
10. Perform additional duties as directed by the by the Laboratory Director or Manager which are necessary for the efficient operation of the laboratory.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

A.   Education

• Bachelor Degree - Science

B.  Qualifications/Experience

• Minimum 5 years blood bank expenience; Minimum 3 years Leadership responsibility
• Clinical lab Scientist – CA (CLS)

C.   Special Skills/Knowledge

• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.  Proficient with computer.
