Position Summary
The Camp Experience Manager oversees day-to-day camp operations and assists the Outdoor Program Supervisor in the implementation of the GSGLA day camp program at Marine Landing. The Camp Experience Manager works with the Outdoor Program Supervisor to lead Camp Leadership Team training and meetings prior to the start of camp; and assists the Outdoor Program Supervisor during lifeguard certification and in-service training.
Marine Landing Day Camp
Marine Landing is a waterfront facility with its own private beach. Daily activities for campers include kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding and swimming. Due to the nature and number of aquatic activities, every staff member at Marine Landing is required to be lifeguard certified. Training is provided before camp begins, if needed. This camp is the perfect location for those who have a strong comfort in the water, want to spend their summer outside and make friends and memories that will last a lifetime.
The camp operates with daily exposure to various weather conditions and animals such as bugs, raccoons, and other wilderness animals common to the area.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver a fun and safe program that meets the standards laid out in the camp guide.
- Ensure program schedules are prepared and implemented that meet camp outcomes and the abilities of the campers.
- Deliver progressive program activities.
- Evaluate the success of the program and the development of the campers’ abilities and skills in various program activities.
- Advise in the direction, supervision, and organization of Marine Landing’s Leadership program to meet the intended Older Girl Scout leadership outcomes.
- Participate in the development and implementation of program activities for Counselors In Training (CITs), Lifeguards in Training (LITs) and Camp Jr. Counselors within the mission and outcomes.
- Apply basic youth development principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement, and empowerment of youth.
- Responsible for leading and assisting with the teaching of activities.
- Provide for the progression of activities within the framework of individual and group interests and abilities.
- Maintain healthy communication with CITs, LITs, and Camp Jr. Counselors through the designated communication platform.
- Supervise and evaluate staff to develop and implement program activities for all facets of camp.
- Regularly supervise and provide feedback to camp staff.
- Provide recommendations and concerns to Outdoor Program Supervisor regarding staff performance.
- Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, providing support and guidance to those assigned as leaders.
- Maintain clear and positive written and verbal communication with all camp staff.
- Function as an Acting Director in accordance with the LA County Children’s Camp Guidelines.
- Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety and educational procedures.
- Assist in the implementation of staff training for specific activity area.
- Train other staff in their responsibilities during activities.
- Ensure campers and staff follow safety procedures.
- Assist counselors with the development of activity kits for use by units and for special events.
- Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the overall camp operations.
- Address program concerns in a timely manner; effectively communicate changes and concerns with the Outdoor Program Supervisor.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of pre-camp staff training.
- Lead weekly staff meetings and participate in daily staff meetings as needed.
- Provide outstanding customer service and outreach to families.
- Assist in the management and care of the physical facilities and equipment in activity area.
- Maintain and clean activity equipment and activity area, keeping it free of hazards and debris.
- Ensure that equipment and supplies are secure.
- Conduct a daily check of the area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
- Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior.
- Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
- Model exemplary behavior for campers and peers by adhering to camp protocols, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation, punctuality, and showcasing fairness and equity.
