Position Title: Electrical/Mechanical Engineering Intern
Location: Belmont, CA

Hourly Rate: $30-35/hour
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm
Environment: Lab or Cleanroom Environment (more than 50% of the time)

Position Overview:
Nikon Research Corporation of America (NRCA) is seeking a highly motivated and creative Intern to join our team on a short-term basis. This representative will be responsible for completing identified job duties and responsibilities within a defined Engineering or Research area. While using strong analytical background, they will need to be creative and capable of proposing innovative solutions to difficult problems.
You'll get to work on designing, debugging, or testing as part of a small team (4-6 engineers) responsible for one aspect of a larger project conducted by a diverse group of about 20 researchers. There's work available for either mechanical, electrical, or software engineers.
Things you get to do:
- Under guidance from senior scientists or engineers, this representative will work on projects that develop and deliver innovative solutions to a variety of challenging problems or assignments
- Complete individual tasks or assignments that are project focused
- Develop new software for analysis and operation of our machines (MATLAB, C, C++)
- Assembly, debugging, or evaluation of complex systems
- Laboratory work including experiment design, instrumentation, conducting measurements, and post-processing experimental results
- Prepare and deliver presentations on completed projects
- Communication with local and Japanese colleagues
- Other duties as required
Technology you’ll gain experience with:
- Optics and opto-mechanics
- Digital control systems
- Electronics design and assembly
- C programming of real-time control systems
- MATLAB
The ideal applicant is a current student or recent graduate with the following:
- Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Mechanical, Electrical or Software Engineering or Optics or Opto-mechanical Engineering
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to work independently and effectively within a small team
- Capable of following established protocol or research assignments
- Ability to work safely in a lab or cleanroom environment
