Class Characteristics This is a temporary part-time, entry level, classification. This classification is used to provide college students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a professional setting while pursuing a degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field. Representative Duties
1. Job shadows IT department to gain valuable knowledge and experience in the technology field 2. Set up maintenance of computers and peripherals; participate in troubleshooting. 3. Assist with maintenance of network infrastructure. 4. Support maintenance of security infrastructure. 5. Aid with monitoring and posting on the department’s intranet. 6. Assistance with application development and application support. 7. Performs IT inventory 8. Assists with IT Helpdesk tickets, as needed. 9. Aids with managing City's GIS databases. 10. Assists in the deployment of computer equipment and other projects, as necessary.
Qualifications
Knowledge of: • Computers and computer software. • Programing, desktop support, infrastructure, networking, and security. • Experience in working with Windows 10/11 and experienced in windows deployment. • Skilled in Web technologies (HTML, XML, JSON, CSS, JavaScript, etc.) • Familiarity with data analytics • Possess research techniques, methods, and procedures. • Proficient written and oral communication skills. • Customer service oriented, detail oriented, and reliable.
Time Commitment Minimum 12-15 hours per week for three or more months. Hours can be scheduled in 3 to 8 hour blocks of time during regular business hours (Monday through Thursday between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.) Appointment The Intern position is a part-time/temporary at-will position. Nothing herein is intended to constitute a written or implied contract of employment. All internships are at-will assignments and may be terminated at any time.
Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Work is usually performed in a standard office environment; may vary according to job assignment. May be required to travel to various sites, locations, and/or events. Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours. Employees are required to assume the duties of a disaster worker in the event of a locally declared emergency.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Employees primarily work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may also work in the field and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, hazardous physical substances and fumes, dust and air contaminants. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
This classification is not intended to be all-inclusive. An intern may be required to perform other reasonable duties as assigned by management. The City reserves the right, with the concurrence of the department head, to revise or change classification duties and responsibilities as the need arises and as consistent with the meet and confer process.
Experience, Education and Licenses
Education and Experience: Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university majoring in Information Technology, computer science, or related fields; or be a recent graduate who has completed their degree or certification in one of the above fields of study. No prior experience required.
