Position Summary: The Chief Privacy Officer (CPO) at UCLA Health Sciences is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the organization's privacy program. The CPO will lead efforts to ensure compliance with relevant privacy laws, regulations, and standards, develop and maintain privacy policies and procedures, and oversee privacy monitoring and auditing activities. The CPO will play a key role in proactively identifying and addressing privacy risks.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategize, lead, and ensure compliance with privacy laws and standards.
Oversee privacy monitoring, testing, reporting, and auditing protocols.
Lead and provide guidance on privacy issues related to research activities, including clinical trials and human subject research.
Investigate privacy incidents and breaches, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
Develop and implement privacy training programs for all employees, including specialized training for departments handling sensitive data.
Conduct regular gap analyses, risk assessments, and program effectiveness evaluations.
Develop annual privacy strategic plans and objectives based on risk assessments.
Lead privacy audits, assessments, and reviews across the enterprise.
Manage third-party products and services for privacy activities.
Perform strategic planning, goal planning, budget planning, and management for the Privacy Program.
Represent UCLA Health Sciences in interactions with regulatory agencies and stakeholders.
Deliver reports and updates for senior management and the Health Sciences Enterprise Compliance Oversight Board.
Job Qualifications

Minimum of 10 years of privacy experience in an academic medical center or similar environment.
Minimum of 3 years of experience managing and supervising privacy staff.
Experience in research privacy.
In-depth knowledge of federal and state privacy laws, regulations, and best practices.
Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
High ethical standards, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain confidentiality and build trust with stakeholders.
The University of California, Los Angeles is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is $131,100 to $323,700.
