The City Finance Internship Program is designed to provide hands-on experience and exposure to the functions and responsibilities of the Finance department. This part-time, training-level position has flexible work hours depending on availability and schedules. Work is performed under direct supervision and is reviewed by a supervisor while in progress and upon completion. Interns in the Finance Department assist the City’s financial management, accounting, budgeting, cash management, business licensing, payroll, revenue collection, purchasing, and general administrative support services for the City.
Compile information and data for statistical and financial reports.
Process accounts payables, cash receipts and supply requisitions.
Verify revenues for proper coding, generate reports and reconcile to the general ledger.
Audit payable vouchers and purchase orders.
Process, issue and audit billing for business licenses.
Assist Director with special projects in relation to investments, technology, budget, and payroll.
Provide general assistance to the department.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
The Intern position is in the Finance Department and is scheduled to work 10 - 20 hours per week, subject to a flexible schedule approved by the Supervisor. The incumbent will need to commit to a minimum of six months of employment with the City.

Performs administrative and basic analytical duties for various City departments including assisting the professional staff as needed.
Participates in routine projects and research in a variety of areas.
Researches and evaluates data and presents facts, conclusions, and recommendations clearly and concisely to department staff, other City departments and agencies, and to the general public.
Participates in the development and/or revisions of manuals, policies and procedures.
Conducts and participates in a variety of department studies and special projects including operational and procedural studies, service demand studies, and capacity studies.
Compiles statistical data; provides recommendations regarding operational and service improvements; conducts quality control for imaged documents.
Utilizes various computer applications and software packages; enters data; creates and updates databases and spreadsheets; maintains and generates reports from a database or network system.
Respond to requests for information from outside agencies and organizations including surveys.
Assist with updating the City's website.
Operates a variety of office equipment including copiers, scanners, facsimile machine, and computer.
Performs related duties as required.
Typical Qualifications

Knowledge of:
Principles, practices and methods of administrative and organizational analysis; public administration policies and procedures.

Licenses/Certificates/Special Requirements:
A valid Class C California Driver's License and the ability to maintain insurability under the City's Vehicle Insurance Policy.
Education/Training/Experience:
Applicants must be a junior, senior or a graduate student in college, or must have a Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree from an accredited university with major course work in public or business administration or a related field.
