POSITION SUMMARY: Pomona College seeks a dynamic and innovative professional staff member who will contribute fully to the operations of the Admissions Office and the Pomona College Access Team (PCAT) whose mission is to increase the representation of traditionally underrepresented groups in higher education through spirited outreach and mindful advocacy. The Assistant Dean will manage one fall and two spring access fly-in programs with the assistance of an admission officer and administrative assistant. This position will also co-manage student tour guides. The Assistant Dean travels periodically during the year to their territory to meet with high school counselors and prospective students, and represent Pomona College at college fairs. This position conducts regular information sessions on the College’s campus for local high school students and the general public. The Assistant Dean reads admissions applications and makes recommendations to the Admissions Selection Committee.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reporting directly to a Senior Associate Dean, the Assistant Dean performs the following essential duties and responsibilities:
Perform recruiting and admission functions for a designated national territory:
Traveling to designated national territory to visit high schools and attend college fairs.
Contacting, meeting, recruiting, and working to enroll at the College prospective High School students.
Sending and responding to inquiries and correspondence about the admission process in a timely manner.
Advising students seeking professional careers about academic and social opportunities with a broad liberal arts education, including internships, study abroad, minors and double majors.
Assisting students with the application process.
Reading, evaluating, and rating applicant admission materials to make appropriate referrals to the Admission Selection Committee and to meet the College’s annual enrollment goals.
Following up with admitted students.
Serving as the College liaison to students, their parents, and the communities in their assigned territory.
Serving as a liaison with High School counselors including scheduling appointments to meet them.
Manages the day-to-day operations of the access fly-in programs of the Pomona College Access Team.
Supports the daily visitor experience as a tour guide co-manager.
Collaborates with the Senior Associate Dean and PCAT colleagues in developing and implementing strategies to attract and enroll underrepresented students at the College.
Provide input and feedback on the functioning of admission programs and initiatives through regular staff meetings and office retreats.
Coordinate special projects/tasks and provide assistance as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in a liberal arts field, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A valid driver’s license is required or equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings and events. A minimum of 2 years of experience working with high school students and counselors, or experience leading student programming, is required. The ability to speak a language other than English is also preferred, but not required. Experience at an academic institution is preferred.

REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours will be required. Travel will be required at least four times a year to assigned territories. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division.
ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS: Regular, full-time, exempt position, benefits eligible. The yearly rate for this role is between $68,000-$73,000 per year. The specific factors that the College will consider when offering a salary to an individual will include, but not be limited to: education, training, relevant prior experience, and performance in prior role.
