Job Summary
The Communications Student Assistant at the Oberlin College Office of Career Exploration and Development (CED) is responsible for creating digital and printed marketing materials, maintaining the office’s social media presence by creating and posting content, and working with the Communications and Event Coordinator to develop new ideas. Additionally, this person will serve as a CED ambassador, helping promote programs, events, and resources for their peers and positively contributing to the CED brand.
This position will assist in a variety of tasks including digital and print design, email communications, social media coordination, and more. This person will be encouraged to seek out testimonials and constructive feedback about CED from students on campus.
Responsibilities
Design digital and printed marketing materials and swag items for CED programs, events, and other initiatives
Post and distribute printed posters and other marketing materials
Become familiar with and follow stylistic and accessibility guidelines for each medium or platform
Work with Communications and Event Coordinator to update and adhere to a marketing content calendar
Develop strategies to gain new student followers on all of our social media platforms
Promote our brand with peers by monitoring social media, contributing to mass emails, etc.
Represent CED as a Brand Ambassador; seek out student testimonials from students to continue building and improving our brand across campus
Assist in poster creation to support and market events, workshops, fairs, etc. for the career communities
EXPECTATIONS
Participate in orientation training at the beginning of the 2024 Fall semester
Become proficient in communication and design tools, including Canva and Handshake
Attend scheduled meetings with supervisor
Adhere to college and departmental style and accessibility standards
Uphold a commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and accessibility
Work a maximum of 5 hours per week (hours and location flexible)
Qualifications
Experience designing posters, flyers, and other printed and digital marketing materials
Proficiency in Canva or similar design programs; willingness to learn new design and automation tools
Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team
Strong organizational skills and demonstrated reliability and responsibility
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Enrolled as a student for the 2024-2025 academic year
