CURRENT VACANCY:
This current vacancy is for Digitization Services. Under the direction of the Library Director, the Digitization Services position primarily focuses on the City’s document conversion project. This position will require working collaboratively across library and city departments, as well as working closely with professional services vendors. The successful candidate will perform a wide range of work including, but not limited to: document preparation, preservation and scanning; development and maintenance of folders and metadata structures for the project; presentations to internal and external stakeholders; technology assistance to staff and public; and provide library coverage and community outreach as needed.
Under general supervision of the Library Services Manager, the Librarian I performs a wide range of professional services and complex library work; manages the activities of an assigned area including but not limited to Digitization Services, Youth Services, Reference Section, Electronic Resources and Technology Support (ERTS) Division, and Asian Services; and performs other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: Supervision is provided by the Library Services Manager.
Essential Job Functions

Provides specialized professional assistance to patrons at public service desks; answers factual ready reference questions and fills in-depth research requests; assists patrons in the effective use of library materials and equipment; participates in collection development including maintenance of assigned subject areas; assists patrons with basic computing tasks and troubleshooting computing equipment; develops appropriate programming that is of value and interest to the community; performs collection maintenance in assigned areas; performs materials and service analyses; serves as a member on the strategic planning committee; cross-trains in all areas of public services; and performs other related duties as assigned. Maintains regular attendance.
Qualification Guidelines
To qualify for this classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities, and enable the individual to successfully perform the essential job functions of the position. A typical combination is:
Education and/or Experience:
Master's Degree in library science, library information science, information science, or a closely related field. Some experience in library operations is preferred.
Knowledge of:
Professional library reference and collection development practices; current and emerging technology trends in public libraries; community outreach and promotional techniques; collection management and cataloging and programming; and reference materials and reader's advisory.
Ability to:
Perform professional work with minimal supervision; communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively with a diverse audience; provide excellent customer service and attend to multiple tasks or customer inquiries effectively; and assist in operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining library office equipment.
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Class "C" California Driver's License is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to lift up to 15 pounds is required. Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, crouching and stooping in the performance of daily office activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement, and fine coordination in retrieving and entering data using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading work related documents and using the computer, and acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal service.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Employee generally works indoors. Environment is generally clean with limited exposure to conditions such as dust, fumes, or odors. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and the employee will be exposed to interruptions from telephones and/or members of the public.
