SUMMARY
The Manager of Space Planning & Analytics leads a team of space planning analysts in driving product sales through effective visual and space presentation. This position will support the total category long-range plan and brand objectives based on a robust understanding of sales and space. This position is the primary contact for space planning analytics, recommendations, payroll forecasts, budgeting and store execution of planograms that represents over $2 billion in annual sales.
The Manager of Space Planning & Analytics must possess strong leadership skills as they are ultimately responsible for driving cross-functional space planning team to be store and customer-focused, innovative, fast, and team-oriented in their work. Ensures flawless execution through deliberate, structured, and accurate presentation documents while critically evaluating the assortment and allocated space and productivity. Leverages space planning and analytics tools to ensure that product placement in planograms maximizes sales, margin, and inventory performance for the assigned categories.
JOB DUTIES
- Optimization of financial strategies and space productivity:
- Owns the analytics that build the master calendar. Ensure labor standards and maximize potential sales while minimizing costs.
- Owns the production of the Space Planning teams’ output of POG documents, shelf labels and data integrity for planograms.
- Accountable for optimized planograms aligning with product/sales analysis. Responsible for auditing floorplans created by Floor Planning Analysts as assigned to ensure visual standards, space to sales optimization.
- Leads cross-functional teams to implement and support the strategic vision of the buying teams, ensures the space planning team understands and follows the vision.
- Creates the assortment to space assignment in all project stores.
- Ensures store communication is clear and concise to foster effective and consistent execution in our stores.
- Conduct post-event performance analysis and implement improvements for future merchandise sets based on results.
- Perform competitive analysis of the surrounding retail landscape.
- Project Management:
- Communicate progress, risk, expectations, timelines, milestones and other key project metrics to appropriate vendors, cross-functional partners, and team members.
- Minimize risk across multiple projects. Implement engagement review and accuracy procedures in accordance with company values/competencies and methodology to ensure successful execution of projects.
- Holistic execution of authoritative assortments
- Collaborates with team members to ensure consistency of execution, sharing best practices, and developing knowledge of space tools and practices.
- Leadership and Strategy:
- Serves as a coach and mentor to the team to identify best practices and recommend process improvements to the Director of Visual Merchandising.
- Develop and implement departmental processes and tools.
- Select and hire appropriate team members.
- Collaborates with team members to ensure consistency of execution, sharing best practices, and developing knowledge of space tools and practices.
- Lead and influence solutions-based thinking, conflict resolution and productive dialogue in cross functional and merchandising meetings
- Consistently demonstrate best in class leadership presence and cast positive leadership shadow.
- Demonstrate ability to layer strategic thinking and business ownership on top of business execution across multiple business categories.
- Drive new business incubation strategies within their product category.
- Demonstrates capability to flex communication based on audience and complexity.
- Budgeting Responsibilities:
- Responsible for overseeing POG/shelf label printing $1.0M budget including planning, forecast, and reconciliation. Responsible for ideation for savings and efficiencies to reduce print operating expenses.
- Responsible for payroll planning, productivity modeling, forecasts and financial reporting that feeds the store payroll allocation.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This role manages the day-to-day execution of the space planning analysts including performance management.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Education Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in Business / Retail Merchandising / Visual Presentation / Data Science
Education Preferred: Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification or related certification.
Experience Minimum: 7+ years’ experience in a supervisory role within merchandising, retail operations, project management/layout. 5+ years’ experience in transferable retail experience within Space Management, Merchandising, Assortment, and/or Merchandise Planning. Multi-category experience required.
Experience Preferred: 5+ years’ experience with data interpretation and providing data-driven recommendations.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position may require some traveling to retail stores to evaluate space planning strategies/projects.
