ABOUT THE PUBLIC WORKS SERVICES DEPARTMENT Public Works Service Department’s mission is to provide efficient stewardship for the City’s public works infrastructure.
The Public Works Service Department has four (4) sections: Facilities (services 15 City facilities and 8 fire district facilities); Parks and Landscaping (maintains 31 parks, adult sports park and baseball stadium, 125 street front miles and comprehensive inventory of trees, paseos and trails; Street/Fleet/Storm Drain (maintain 534 roadway miles, including 4,004 catch basins and 226 signalized intersections, and provides fleet maintenance for 166 vehicles and over 140 pieces of on/off-road equipment; and Administration/Project Management (manages departmental support services, contracts, budget and capital maintenance projects).
ABOUT THE ENGINEERING SERVICES DEPARTMENT The Engineering Services Department consists of five separate sections, Capital Management, Transportation, Land Development, Environmental Programs, and Rancho Cucamonga Municipal Utility, with a total of forty-one (41) staff spanning various roles.

THE POSITION
PUBLIC WORKS SERVICES The Assistant Engineer for the Public Works Services Department plays a pivotal role in the Major Projects Program (formerly Capital Improvement Program). This position will focus on planning, coordinating, administering, and implementing various capital improvement projects. As part of the Public Works Leadership Team, this position will take the lead on project planning and design, permits and regulatory compliance, preparation of bid documents, project management, and budget administration.
Your responsibilities will include the following:
Assisting with the management of contracts for engineering consultants
Collection, verification, and processing of data
Review of engineering studies, engineering plans and specifications
Evaluating, and making recommendations on requests from the public
Preparation and writing of staff reports
Providing high quality customer service through regular interaction with residents, contractors, consultants, and other members of the public

Citywide HVAC and Lighting Controls – New lighting and HVAC controls and replacement of fluorescent and HID technology with LED lighting citywide.
Water Conservation and Landscape Renovation Program – Annual program targeting different areas throughout the City to remove turf and replace with drought tolerant landscape and hardscape.
Citywide Concrete Rehab Program – Annual program removing and replacing sections of concrete in sidewalks, curb, gutters, and drive approaches in different neighborhoods throughout the City.
ENGINEERING SERVICES - CAPITAL MANAGEMENT The Assistant Engineer for the Engineering Services Department will be a part of a team consisting of a total of one (1) Principal Engineer, three (3) Associate Engineers, and four (4) Assistant Engineers. This position performs a variety of field and office duties in support of the Capital Management Section mainly consisting of civil design, preparation of bid documents, project management for smaller capital projects, providing assistance to other City Departments for capital project implementation and delivery, and assisting with the planning and preparation of the Major Projects Program (formerly Capital Improvement Program).

Advanced Traffic Management System – A multi-phased, traffic signal sync project that will aid in improving peak travel times along arterials and reduce congestion and air pollution within the City.
Heritage Park Bridge Replacement – A project that will take three separate bridges and combine them into one new bridge for vehicle, pedestrian, and equestrian access within one of the City’s neighborhood parks.
Various Active Transportation Projects – The City recently completed it’s Active Transportation Plan, ConnectRC and will be taking on projects outlined in the plan over the next 3-5 years.
General Plan Implementation – Ensuring the needs of the community and its residents are met on a daily basis by conceptualizing and designing trails, new roads, active transportation infrastructure, etc.

Education and/or Experience: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field and two years of progressively responsible professional experience in Civil Engineering or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities.
