The primary purpose of Ophthalmic Technician is to provide advanced level technical support to the Ophthalmology Clinics, Faculty and Residents, and to perform various services, as directed, to facilitate patient care and efficient clinic operation.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
Credentials required: 1 – 2 years of experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant or as an Ophthalmic Technician. 1) JCAHPO (Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology) Certification at the Ophthalmic Assistant required at hire. Ophthalmic Technician certification to follow within one (1) year of hire as an Ophthalmic Technician. Current certification in a related field considered for substitution. This substitution is made on a case by case basis. Examples of acceptable certificates are optometry, surgical technology, or foreign medical graduate with experience in Ophthalmology. 2) Current CPR Certification.
Primary source verification: University Hospital's designated Background Check Company; JCAHPO Ophthalmic Technician Certification and is verified by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology; CPR certification is verified by document from American Heart Association (CPR card with current date).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires standing or walking 2/3 of the time; sitting approximately 1/3 of the time; use of hands to handle or feel over 2/3 of the time; reach with hands and arms approximately 1/3 of the time; stoop, kneel or crouch 1/3 of the time; talk or hear over 2/3 of the time; lifting up to 25 lbs. under 1/3 of the time. Vision requirements include clear vision at 20 inches or less and clear vision at 20 ft.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Moderate noise (example: light traffic, computer – printer generated noise, telephones, overhead paging). Exposure to Blood borne pathogens that requires use of personal protective equipment
