Job Abstract

Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Research Administration within the Office of Research and Innovation, the Research Integrity Officer (RIO) has responsibility for promoting and assuring the ethical conduct of research and scholarship across the university. The RIO will receive and handle allegations of scientific, research, and/or scholarly misconduct that includes fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism in proposing, performing, or reviewing research, or in reporting research results. The RIO manages the inquiry and investigative process and responds to allegations of research misconduct. The RIO also implements federal regulations, sponsor policies and USC policies; and develops written policies and procedures for responding to allegations of research misconduct. The RIO leads initiatives to foster responsible conduct of research, and research training.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

· Serve as the subject matter expert on research integrity and compliance concerns.

· Identify, develop and implement policies and procedures pertaining to research integrity.

· Oversee and manage allegations of scientific and/or research conduct involving members of the USC community consistent with university policies.

· Establish and promote a culture of compliance and integrity whereby all research and scholarship is conducted in an ethical manner.

· Provide training to university constituents, as it relates to research integrity.

· Serve as a OORI representative in dealings with governmental agencies and key committees across the university.

· Keep abreast on all state laws, federal regulations and national trends influencing issues related to research integrity.

· Work closely with key constituents across the university, including, but not limited to: Office of the General Counsel, Office of Culture Ethics and Compliance and liaise with individual schools.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: A Juris doctorate AND/OR a graduate degree in engineering, science or medicine.

Experience: 10+ years of relevant and applicable experience, 3+ Years of experience working in a Tier 1 Research Institution in a research setting.

Skills:

· Possess a breadth of knowledge pertaining to federal, state and university laws, policies and procedures pertaining to research.

· Maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.

· Excellent communication and presentation skills.

· Ability to manage a caseload of complex and intricate investigations.

· Proven experience in fostering and maintaining key relationships with internal and external constituents.

The annual base salary range for this position is $105,228.96 - $121,213.42 .
