The Food Policy, Health & Hunger Research Program, led by Dr. Hilary Seligman of UCSF’s Center for Vulnerable Populations, is seeking several Produce Prescription Program Coordinators that are organized individuals with knowledge of and/or direct experience with produce prescription programs to join their dynamic team in supporting projects related to food and nutrition security and advancing the field of food is medicine. These positions will play a key role in providing high-quality, timely training, technical assistance, and support to the Vouchers 4 Veggies program as well as a large network of other programs and interested parties involved in the operation and evaluation of produce prescription programs.
More specifically, the Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program Training, Technical Assistance, Evaluation, and Information Center (GusNIP NTAE) supports nutrition incentive and produce prescription programs across the country. The NTAE is led by the Gretchen Swanson Center for Nutrition (GSCN) and funded through a cooperative agreement with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA). In partnership with lead partners UCSF and Fair Food Network, GSCN has assembled the Nutrition Incentive Hub, a coalition of evaluators, researchers, practitioners, and grocery and farmers market experts from across the country dedicated to strengthening and uniting the best thinking in the field to increase access to affordable, healthy food for those who need it most.
The Food Policy, Health & Hunger Research Program is responsible for leading all support efforts for GusNIP-funded produce prescription grantees, potential applicants, and the broader field. We are seeking several Produce Prescription Program Coordinators to assist with the development and delivery of a comprehensive suite of training and technical assistance activities for produce prescription programs nationally. The specific activities provided will reflect the needs of the growing field, but we anticipate responsibilities to cover the following topics and are looking for individuals with expertise in one or more of these areas:
Produce Prescription Training & Technical Assistance: • Deliver high-quality, timely training and technical assistance spanning the implementation and evaluation of produce prescription programs to GusNIP audiences as needed across a variety of platforms (webinars, Communities of Practice, Convenings, field visits, and 1:1 support as needed)
• Serve as a Produce Prescription Advisor, providing individualized, tailored technical assistance to a designated set of grantees operating produce prescription programs across diverse settings
• Monitor and respond in a timely manner to grantees’ technical assistance requests made through the newly developed integrated system. Support potential applicants with navigating the submission process for GusNIP Produce Prescription grants funded by USDA NIFA
• Prepare resources and materials as needed to assist grantees, potential applicants, and the produce prescription field at large. Examples include updating web-based resources and creating videos, tutorials, briefers, fact sheets, FAQs, and/or best practices documents.
Produce Prescription Technology: • Provide support to produce prescription program operators around the availability and adoption of available technology platforms
• Support collaborative Hub efforts to identify, explore, and pilot emerging technologies in the produce prescription space, including incentive technologies (electronic debit cards, e-coupons, loyalty cards, etc), customer relationship management software (CRM), and bi-directional communication platforms with healthcare systems.
• Develop and foster relationships with the appropriate public and private partners to advance efforts supporting more streamlined, accessible technologic options for produce prescription operators.
Produce Prescription Healthcare Integration:• Provide technical assistance and support to produce prescription operators and their healthcare partners around the healthcare-related components of their program operation, such as designing and adopting clinic workflows, measurement of appropriate healthcare outcomes, measurement of healthcare utilization, assessment of attributed costs, data extraction and sharing processes, as well as how to establish meaningful healthcare partnerships with the appropriate contracts and agreements in place. Support may come in the form of 1:1 technical assistance, group webinars, or the development of written guidance, tools, and/or best practices.
• Monitor and provide guidance around the emerging adoption and insurance coverage of Food is Medicine interventions, such as produce prescription programs, by federal, state, and private health insurers.
These positions require someone who is a skilled team player who can work both independently and collaboratively. The ideal candidate can communicate with empathy and diplomacy. They will have enthusiasm and deep knowledge of the produce prescription model, excitement and experience delivering technical assistance and working with external grantees and partners, solid organizational, communication, and project management skills, and a strong commitment to health and racial equity. ***NOTE: Our intention is for this to be a hybrid position. Priority will be given to those able to be on-site at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital a minimum of 2-4 days per month. Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

- Master’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience.
- Working knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs.
- Bachelor’s degree in related area and one or more years of relevant experience and / or equivalent experience / training.
