The City of Corona has an exciting opportunity to join our Finance Department as a Purchasing Specialist I/II Flex. The Purchasing Specialist I/II procures a wide range of supplies, equipment, and services for the City following prescribed standards and codes; prepares formal and informal bids; creates and amends contract; processes purchase orders; establishes and maintains vendor relationships; coordinates purchasing with other department representatives; and performs related duties, as assigned. The successful candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills/abilities, experience, and characteristics: Knowledge & Education
Purchasing Specialist I: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
Purchasing Specialist II: Equivalent to an associate degree with major coursework in business administration, accounting, finance, or a related field
Knowledge of modern principles, practices, and methods of public and governmental purchasing and procurement programs and processes and their application to City operations.
Knowledge of competitive bidding and pricing procedures.
Skills & Abilities
Ability to Negotiate bids, purchase orders, and/or pricing schedules for services, supplies, and equipment.
Ability to prepare basic budgetary and financial analyses.
Ability to interpret, apply, explain, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
Ability to research and utilize data and information to achieve cost effective results.
Experience
Purchasing Specialist I: One (1) year of clerical, customer service, inventory control, purchasing support, or related experience.
Purchasing Specialist II: Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in purchasing, contract administration, procurement services, or a related field.
Experience in government purchasing experience is highly desirable.

The Organization
The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policymaking and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members. Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.
