Under general supervision, provides athletic training services at an advanced level in designated area of assignment. The athletic trainer will monitor and coordinate all aspects of athletic training services for assigned areas of responsibility including scheduling, daily operations and orientation/training for all other providers. Clearly demonstrates the ability to perform prevention, assessment, treatment (including first aid), reconditioning and general rehabilitation of professional athletes and their associated injuries as set forth by the Board of Certification (BOC).
The qualified candidate will be responsible for carrying out the following duties:
During the designated season for a local sports team, the athletic trainer will provide day-to-day coverage and services including attendance to all home and away games, pre-season conditioning, and practices as agreed upon by the respective organizations.
Prepares work schedules, assigns personnel for game/practice coverage, evaluates general work performance, ensures quality of care for athletes, and makes recommendations for personnel actions and staffing levels.
Assist with development of injury prevention programs, athletic training educational sessions, and off-season conditioning programs offered to the team and local community.
Develops and builds strong relationships with the team members, covering physicians, local businesses, schools, coaches, players and other resources in the local community. Demonstrate interpersonal skills required to work effectively with players, coaches and other team personnel.
Demonstrate proper taping, strapping, bracing and fitting of athletic equipment.
Demonstrates advanced training and skills necessary to carry out all prescribed treatments and recommendations made by the team/program/event physician and communicates appropriately with the rest of the interdisciplinary care team.
Utilizes appropriate, sound and up-to-date clinical techniques to effectively assess and treat athletic injuries at an advanced level.
Maintain BOC and CPR certification in accordance with those respective institutions.
Maintain athletes’ medical records and submit injury reports, initiate and file workman’s compensation claims for athletes as required, perform duties to assist team physicians, organize and implement pharmaceutical inventory and records under the direction of the team physician.
Supervise assistant athletic trainers and athletic training students, aides and volunteers as required.
Cover assigned pre-season and post-season physicals, sports games or matches and related events, and supervises onsite treatments and programs of reconditioning for injured athletes under the supervision of the sports medicine program coordinator and medical director.
Records athletic injuries and treatments as rendered and maintains the records in accordance with the district/organization guidelines for which service is provided.
Assists the examining physician in implementation of pre-participation examinations for prospective athletes and measures player’s/athlete’s progress and level of function in a manner appropriate for specific age groups. Continues to work cooperatively with physicians and other care team members by advising of any change in athlete’s progress through an ongoing status report.
Assists in the treatment of athlete’s recovery from sports or orthopedic conditions referred for rehabilitation. As part of the interdisciplinary care team, will evaluate the player, help set goals and monitor progress. The athletic trainer will assist with the implementation of the recommended treatment plan.
Assists with team travel coordination including disbursement of per diems, hotel rooming lists, flight rosters, etc.

Required Skills Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in health related field/Athletic Training with current BOC certification Current ATC licensure Graduate of a National Athletic Trainer’s Association accredited program or graduate of an athletic trainer internship program. Advanced training/education in the field of Athletic Training and/or Sports medicine.
Required Experience
Prior professional or semi-pro baseball experience strongly preferred
