The purpose of the position is to supervise and manage the operations of Lift Station maintenance personnel, which involves such duties as instructing, assigning and reviewing preventative and corrective maintenance work performed by the Wastewater Equipment Mechanics and Electricians, acting on employee issues, selecting new employees, appraising employee performance, and recommending promotions, discipline, termination, and salary increases. This position oversees and performs skilled maintenance and repair on treatment plant and lift station pump mechanical and equipment devices. Employees in this classification troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions, and determine need for repair or replacement of equipment and parts accordingly. Maintenance supervisor responsibilities include the assurance that routine tasks, i.e., changing out cylinders, greasing bearings and fittings, and corrective maintenance tasks are completed, and ensures compliance with established safety and accident prevention standards. Performs related work as directed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Issues work orders concerning sewerage treatment plant and/or lift station pump and mechanical maintenance and repairs.
Delegates scheduled and unscheduled jobs to the equipment mechanics and electricians based upon priority and/or emergency.
Verifies that the mechanics and electricians perform a daily review of the SCADA system.
Performs skilled troubleshooting and diagnosis of equipment malfunctions, and determines needs for repair or replacement of equipment and parts accordingly.
Verifies that the parts/equipment being utilized by personnel is appropriate for the preventative and corrective maintenance being performed.
Inspects work performed by the equipment mechanics, electricians, and contractors upon completion to ensure adherence to work order specifications.
Ensures that established preventive maintenance programs and schedules for lubricating, rotating, cleaning, and inspecting equipment and attendant devices are adhered to.
Complies with established safety measures and accident prevention standards, i.e., use of proper gear and equipment, monitoring environmental conditions. Must notify department management and the City’s safety officer of any accidents or safety incidents that occur and must provide a report and pictures of the accident/incident.
Reports to department management on any perceived apparent or potential maintenance or repair needs in a timely manner.
Provides supervision, guidance, and technical assistance to equipment mechanics, electricians and unskilled and semi-skilled helpers.
Installs, repairs, and replaces various parts, equipment and devices, i.e., pumps, motors, bubbler and ventilation systems, water and air lines, drive shafts, air compressors, piping, valves, pneumatic controls, electrical fixtures including switches and motors.
Obtains quotes and issues purchase order numbers to vendors for any parts, materials, or equipment required for maintenance and repair jobs.
Manages maintenance division inventory.
Develops and maintains the Maintenance Standby (On-Call) Schedule.
Approves all maintenance scheduled and unscheduled over time.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Communicates with vendors, engineers, contractors, other City personnel, and the public in a professional, courteous manner.
Provides lift station operational data to engineers, vendors, and contractors.
Operates various hand and power tools and equipment, i.e., drill presses, hydraulic equipment, arc welders.
Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs a wide variety of pump mechanical equipment and attendant devices.
Operates a boom truck if required.
Prioritizes and organizes assigned tasks in a cost and time effective manner.
Provides training, guidance, and technical support to unskilled and semi-skilled personnel as needed.
Performs other related duties as required.
Essential duty status position, will be required to report to work during emergency situations, including, but not limited to, city-wide declared emergencies.
