JOB SUMMARY:
The City of Frederick promotes a service-delivery philosophy among City employees to provide responsive service to residents, to be efficient and results-oriented in order to make the City of Frederick a better place to live, work and visit. Under general supervision, the Refuse Collector collects curbside and containerized refuse and places it into the collection vehicle. An employee in this position is considered “essential personnel” and must be able to respond to emergencies outside normal business hours as necessary.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Collects curbside and containerized refuse, placing it into collection vehicle.
Operates the collection vehicle's hydraulic packer system to compact collected refuse.
Assists driver in safely maneuvering vehicle during collection operations.
Adheres to safety rules and accident prevention measures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
One (1) to three (3) months of related experience and/or training in performance of heavy manual work is desirable, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Communication skills
Other Desirables
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
One (1) year of experience in the collection of Solid Waste.
